Girona
Our house is located just 15 km from Girona. A a city on a human scale but with the attractiveness of bigger cities and with a wonderful historic centre.
El bosc de Can Ginebreda
In Porqueres you will find an open air park with more than 100 erotic sculptures, stretching for 6 hectares of Mediterranean forest. The sculptures are works of the self-taught sculptor Xicu Cabanyes Collell.
Castellfollit de La Roca
Castellfollit is a small village with around a thousand inhabitants but with a land area of less than 1 km2. The village is bordered by the confluence of the Fluvià and Toronell rivers with a spectacular basalt cliff rising up in the centre. The outline of the church and hanging houses atop the cliff, bordering the precipice, has become one of the most photographed and painted images of Catalonia.
Ruïnes d'Empúries
The ancient Greeks settled here and later the Romans too. Not only for strategical reasons but also because of the inquestionable beauty of the place.
Museu Dalí
The theater/museum of Dalí world's largest surrealist object. It occupies the building of the former Figueres theatre, a 19th century construction which was destroyed at the end of the Spanish Civil War. On its ruins, Dalí decided to create his museum. You will find this beautiful museum in Figueres, at 20 km of Can Miquelet.
Banyoles
The city of Banyoles is the capital of the county of Pla de l’Estany and has the biggest lake of Catalunya. It is a county with a wealth of natural beauty and it offers an unique environmental beauty. It is a perfect place for walking or for simply relaxing and taking in the breathtaking surroundings.
Besalú
Also worth a visit is Besalú in the county of la Garrotxa. Like its origin indicates, Bisuldunum was a fortress between two rivers: the Fluviá in the south and the Capellades in the north. Santuari de la Mare de Déu del Mont
The Sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de Cura (Mother of God of Cura) was constructed in the 14th century, over the structure of a former medieval castle. It still preserves a great popular devotion. The room where Mossen Cinto Verdaguer resided, is still conserved inside the sanctuary. In this room he wrote one of his master pieces: El Canigó.
Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Empordà
It is the second Catalan wetland in importance, and one of the best-known and most emblematic natural áreas of the conservation in Catalunya. The possibility to observe very exceptional fauna (otters, bucks, swamphens bitterns, etc.) togheter with good infrastructures and recreative activities, lead thousands of people to visit this unique place throughout the year.
L'Escala
Located in the Costa Brava in the county of Alt Empordà, between Torroella de Montgrí and Sant Pere Pescador.In the 16th century it was a small fishing port, dependent on the nearby town of Empúries. In the year 1766 it became independent from Empúries. Nowadays, the village is famous because of the anchovy fishing. Its main tourist attraction is located at 2 km out of town; the Greek-Roman ruines of Empúries. These are among the most important of the country
Cadaqués
Cadaqués is located on the eastern side of the Peninsula of Cabo de Creus, in the county of l’Alt Empordà. The fact that Cadaqués is located in the middle of rocky massifs that are in contact with the sea, caused the almost complete isolation of the village from the rest of the continent during centuries. Untill the end of the 19th century the only exit was the sea. Cadaqués was the location of choice for many artists and intellectuals to spend shorter or longer, peaceful stays. These artists and intellectuals gave the place a great prestige and rename, especially in painting circles and visual artists.
Portlligat
The Portlligat Museum-Housse was Salvador Dali's only fixed abode, the place in whtch hi normally lived and worked up till 1982, when upon Gala's death, he took up residence at Púbol Castel
